Gervonta Davis launched a scathing attack on promoter Eddie Hearn
WBA World lightweight champion Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis launched a scathing attack on British promoter Eddie Hearn, saying, “He’s a snake in a suit, that’s all!”
The Baltimore boxer then revealed why he has such a problem with the Matchroom Boxing chief, “He let Conor Benn test positive and was still gon’ let him fight.”
It was back in October 2022 when ‘Born Rivals’ Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn were due to meet in a mega-fight in England, which was cancelled just two days before fight night after Benn tested positive for PEDs.
Despite Benn testing positive more than once over a course of several months in the lead-up to fight night, Hearn tried everything he could to get the fight to still go ahead, but was eventually vetoed by the British Boxing Board of Control.
At the time, the entire boxing world was in disbelief that a professional boxer could test positive for drugs tests yet still be considered able to fight.
Conor Benn, to this day, is still banned from competing in the UK.
Loyal supporter, Tony Bellew, was quick to come to Hearn’s defence, recently commenting, “Eddie Hearn is the most honest promoter in the world, people say I’m kissing his behind – this is not an opinion, that’s a fact.
“Hearn let’s fighters have an ownership model and he’s the only promoter in the world who will let his fighter see his true worth and he will work for you.
“I’ve been on that model and when you see what you can generate and what you’re worth, it’s mind blowing.
“And it just shows you what some of these promoters have been doing for years abusing fighters. It’s so sad to see fighters ripped off on the world stage, so to hear Canelo say they [GoldenBoy] weren’t going to pay Golovkin until he intervened, that’s truly frightening.”
