George Liddard:
“This is everything to me, it’s everything I’ve worked for since I was eight years old. This is the title fight. I have to win this fight to put myself in that position later in the year. I’ve not overlooked anything, I’m not thinking about the next one yet as much as it’s been agreed, this is the fight that’s important right now and I’m going to get the job done on Saturday night.
“I started my pro journey quite young, joined the Matchroom gym at 19 and made my debut at 20. I didn’t really have a chance to develop in the amateurs as I jumped into the pros, but we spent six to eight months working before I made my debut and being in such an experienced gym around so many amazing fighters, I learned so much and I developed my pro style quite quickly.
“I’ve stepped up fight after fight, I’ve been in with some decent guys, some fights that could have caused me trouble. You look at George Davey another English prospect, the Derrick Osaze fight, he’s an experienced guy, and I passed those tests. This for me is another man in the way, another test, and I’m ready to pass it again.
“Like you said Eddie, if you are from Essex and you aren’t there on Saturday night, unless you got a seriously good excuse, where are you?! what is going on?! The Copper Box is the place to be on Saturday night, it’s going to be lively, I can’t wait to put on a show for everyone, keep the belt, and put myself into a big fight at the end of the year.”
Aaron Sutton:
“I’ve been waiting for this opportunity for a long time now, I feel like I deserve it and I’m going to prove on Saturday that I will bring that belt home.
“I don’t think George Liddard has been in with anyone as good as me, or as strong as me. This is going to give me a second shot at Gerome Warburton!”
Kieron Conway:
“It’s really important for me to get that Lonsdale belt, especially at the second time of asking having fallen short against Ted Cheeseman getting that draw all those years ago. It’s good to be back fighting for the British title, it’s one I’ve wanted for a long time. It doesn’t happen in my town so it would be good to take it back there. I’m hugely confident for this one, I’ve had a great training camp, and I’m just ready to go now.
“My career has been mental to be honest. Some of the stuff I’ve been around and seen now is unrealistic, the experiences I’ve gained are just phenomenal. But this one is special being the British title, and I’m just really looking forward to getting in there on Saturday, I need to take this back to Northampton, it’s a fight to win convincingly.”
Gerome Warburton:
“This is what I’ve worked my whole career for since stepping in a boxing gym at 14. This is a very big moment for me, it’s my World title and on Saturday I will become British and Commonwealth champion.
“Kieron is a good fighter and he’s been in some big fights. You can’t look past people, but I do believe I’ve got what it takes to beat him. I’m hungry, I’ve never turned down a fight, I’ve always been there to prove people wrong, people have said before that I wouldn’t get past certain opposition and I’ve done it, thats got me into the spot I’m in now and I can’t lose on Saturday, I’ve got to win.”
Jimmy Sains:
“It’s a massive opportunity for me. The Southern Area title is overlooked a bit, but I want to go the traditional route through the belts, and this is the first step.
“Even though I’ve been very active, it’s still been one fight at a time, and I’ve took my time. So, this is a natural progression, and the Southern Area is the perfect fight for me so I can’t wait to get in there on Saturday night.”
Gideon Onyenani:
“This is what I’m boxing for, these types of fights, that’s what the excitement is about. I don’t really fear any records or how good my opponent is, I’ve fought in tough fights and those are the ones that I get up for, so I’m excited to fight Jimmy on Saturday.
“Whether it’s short notice fights or ones where people are saying I’m a massive underdog, that’s what it’s about. I’ve gained experience from my last fight, and I’m looking to take that into this fight and cause an upset.”
John Hedges:
“These are the nights I’ve always wanted Eddie, and you’ve delivered for me. I won the Southern Area in my last fight at the Copper Box and we’re going straight back in there to win the English title.
“Nathan is a good fighter and I’m going into a proper fight, but these are the fights I want to be in, I don’t want the fights that no-one is talking about. I want fights where people are saying ‘this is one to watch’. So, I’m blessed to have this opportunity and it’s going to be a big night for me on Saturday.
“Moving to Manchester was a big move in my career, you have to sacrifice everything if you want to follow your dreams. It wasn’t a hard decision in the sense that I needed to go. We’ve teamed up with Ricky Hatton and we’ve grafted our arse off since we’ve been in the gym, and I’m just excited more than anything because I’ve picked up loads of new things and kept what I’m already good at, just adding to the recipe. So I’m looking forward to Saturday, it’s going to be a big night for me.”
Nathan Quarless:
“I want to say thank you for the opportunity. We got the call about 11 weeks ago and we were ready and waiting for it. Thank you to my manager, Steve Wood, for sorting this out. I’m in tremendous shape; I’ve been training really since July last year as a couple of fights have fallen through. It’s been hard the last 14 months with injuries and setbacks, but now I am ready to announce myself on the big stage.
“I was speaking to Viddal the other day and congratulated him on winning the British title and he said he’d happily run it back with me, so these are the moments that I want in my career, and I’ve just got to go out there on Saturday night and perform.”
Taylor Bevan:
“I’m looking forward to putting on another show in London on Saturday. I’m massively grateful to be getting out so soon and I’ve got lots of support coming up from Southampton. I can’t say why my fans are so wild! They just love a night out and they love boxing, and I’m looking forward to hearing the noise they make on Saturday. This is my fourth fight since November, I’m getting through the fights quickly., I’m hoping Saturday is going to be a bit of a step up and I can get some more rounds, but I’m expecting to put on another spectacular performance and getting him out of there.”
Leli Buttigieg:
“I’m ready to go now, the hard work is all done. I got straight back into camp after my last fight, we’re going to keep stepping up the opponents in every fight, I’m just going to keep getting them out of the way and pushing on for good things.
“That was my best performance yet last time out. I could have gone through the gears earlier but i picked my shots well and hit him with a good body shot. He told me that he’d never been stopped by a body shot before so I can take something from that.”
Shannon Ryan:
“I was last out in December and had my first KO, a spectacular performance in my opinion. I’ve got a new trainer in Aaron Woodcock and I’m flying, so we get this one out of the way and see what’s next.
“I believe I needed the loss, it was a great lesson for me, and I feel that it’s elevated me and pushed me to the right direction that I need to be in for my career.”
