George Groves Devin Haney vs Ryan Garcia prediction
Former super middleweight champion George Groves has given his expert take on the eagerly awaited super lightweight showdown between Devin Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) and Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs).
Haney will be defending his WBC title against his former amateur foe at the Barclays Center, New York, this Saturday, with ample trash talk and things even became physical during fight week helping to build anticipation.
Groves – factoring in Garcia’s erratic behaviour on social media throughout the build-up – backs the defending champion to do the business live on DAZN.
Speaking to Betway, he said: “I think Haney beats Garcia. They’re both good talents but Garcia has got that quit in him, and he’s all over the place on social media.
“I think Haney is working hard, but I don’t know how Garcia can be. Maybe that’s the curse of a massive following on social media, it’s too distracting and you have to live up to it. Haney wins.”
Garcia threw the fight in jeopardy when he began posting questionable and, at times, concerning videos on social media.
But now, judging by his flawless physique, it is evident that he has spent the majority of his time locked away in a long training camp with his esteemed head coach, Derrick James.
Garcia hired James after his defeat to Gervonta Davis nearly a year ago when, down at 135lbs, he was punished by a sickening body shot in the seventh round.
Up at super lightweight, Devin ‘The Dream’ comes off a dominant performance against Regis Prograis in a fight where he dropped his opponent in round three before storming away with a wide unanimous decision.
Garcia is yet to win a major title in his professional career, whereas Haney became the undisputed lightweight champion by comfortably beating George Kambosos Jr twice in 2022, before defending his four belts against one of the sport’s greatest, Vasyl Lomachenko.
