George Groves believes he would have “bashed up” boxing legend if they had ever fought
George Groves has revealed there is one former world champion that he thinks he would have been able to ‘bash up’ in his career.
Groves won a world super middleweight title at the third time of asking having twice fallen short against Carl Froch, and once against Badou Jack in Las Vegas.
The Froch fights are two of the most iconic in recent British boxing history – the first marred by a widely disputed stoppage; the second by a cold, conclusive knockout in front of 80,000 people at Wembley Stadium, which at the time was the biggest post-war boxing attendance in the UK.Groves also beat the likes of Brits Chris Eubank Jr and Martin Murray, and bowed out after losing his world title to Callum Smith out in Saudi Arabia in the early days of boxing out in the Middle East.
Now, speaking via Betway, Groves has spoken about what would have happened had he fought the once fearsome middleweight king Gennady Golovkin.
“Martin Murray said after our fight that I hit harder than Golovkin. That was a feather in my cap. If I would have ever had the chance to fight GGG, I would have had to have had my wits about me, you would have to stop him stalking you.
“He was great at making small adjustments to get into range, then he’d detonate on you. It would be a mental battle where you can’t switch off for a second, but I’d have bashed him up. I’d have kept it long and busted him up.”
