SugarHill reveals how to prepare for Oleksandr Usyk
The most anticipated day in 2024’s heavyweight boxing calendar is drawing closer. After months of setbacks and negotiation difficulties, we are now just over a month away from the crowning of boxing’s first four-belt undisputed heavyweight champion in history.
‘The Gypsy King’ Tyson Fury is ready to clash with Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk in an historical evening in Riyadh on May 18.
Fury has shared great in-ring success with esteemed trainer SugarHill Steward after parting ways with Ben Davison following his first clash with Deontay Wilder in 2018.
Looking ahead at the upcoming bout, SugarHill gave some insight towards his thought process and preparing for every possible situation against the unified Ukrainian.
“I’ve thought about everything possible that could happen and should happen. I go over different situations, I don’t just wake up and think; ‘oh knockout that’s it.’ I do have a brain that I use and I do a lot of thinking,” the renowned trainer revealed to Boxing Social.
“In my position, I have to think of everything that could happen, should happen, maybe happen. I have to try to figure it out. Take everything that I can think of and put it together to make it work.”
Speaking on Fury’s opponent, SugarHill did not downplay the threat of two-weight world champion, clearly impressed by his foe’s work ethic.
“His ability to win impresses me. How he can create winning situations, that’s impressive. I don’t care if he don’t knock everybody out or not, the man knows how to win, clearly. He’s undefeated, same as Tyson, so that’s why for me this is a big fight, a very interesting fight because it’s the two brains and the two scientists of boxing.
“Tyson’s thinking finally, a worthy opponent where everyone can say he’s worthy.”
