Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk’s last five foes
The Undisputed heavyweight showdown between WBC king Tyson Fury and unified WBO/IBF/WBA/IBO champion Oleksandr Usyk is edging closer towards Saturday, May 18, at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Fury-Usyk is the most significant heavyweight battle of the millennium, as the winner will become the division’s first undisputed champion since Lennox Lewis claimed the throne plus mantle in 1999.
Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs) returns following last October’s surprisingly close decision over former UFC king Francis Ngannou in Riyadh. He conquered the WBC Heavyweight Championship in 2020 by defeating one of the greatest HW Punchers of all time “Bronze Bomber” Deontay Wilder.
Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs), an Olympic gold medalist from Ukraine, hopes to become the second man, following Evander Holyfield, to achieve undisputed status at both cruiserweight and heavyweight. Having campaigned at cruiserweight his entire professional career, his last five fights are his only five times performing at heavyweight.
Fury’s Most Recent Bunch of Fives
Francis Ngannou: Fury found himself up against a determined debutant in Ngannou, who unleashed powerful punches very effectively. Ngannou sent Fury to the canvas in the third round, but the Englishman got back up, persevered in the rest of the fight and little by little he equalized the action until he closed better in the last two rounds
Derek Chisora: WBC Heavyweight champion Tyson Fury once again demonstrated why he is the king of the division. Spurred on by this, he defeating Derek Chisoravia 10th-round technical knockout at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London
Dillian Whyte: The Gypsy King” Fury, brilliantly defeated Dillian “The Body Snatcher” Whyte, at Wembley Stadium in London, in front of ninety four thousand fans. In the sixth round, Fury suddenly landed a powerful right uppercut that slammed into Whyte’s chin, sending him to the canvas.
Deontay Wilder: Five knockdowns, titanic punching power and a KO win for WBC Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury, with Referee Russell Mora waving off the fight at one minute and ten seconds of round eleven, after a short devastating right had dropped former Champion Deontay Wilder, who fell hard to the canvass, stunned and utterly exhausted, after giving his utmost all and going out on his shield, in front of an ecstatic 15,000 fans at the T Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Otto Wallin: Tyson Fury, remained undefeated but suffered two severe cuts, winning the Mayan Belt II of the World Boxing Council, defeating durable basher, Swede Otto Wallin by UD, at the T-Mobile Arena of The Vegas, Nevada.
Usyk’s Most Recent Bunch of Fives
Daniel Dubois: Despite the contest being quite one-sided, the champion systematically breaking down the hard-hitting Brit until he was able to knock him down and stop him with just his jab in round nine, there was controversy during and after the event.
Anthony Joshua: The rematch was a lot closer than the first encounter 11 months prior, but Usyk was still a clear winner. 116-112 and 115-113 were suitable scores, but again there was a rogue judge at ringside, who went 115-113 for AJ, which was simply preposterous. The CompuBox stats later showed that the winner outlanded Joshua by 170 punches to 124, which was even wider than their first fight.
Anthony Joshua: The challenger ripped the titles away from the defending champion in his own back yard in North London in September 2021. Scores of 117-112 and 116-112 were about right, but the 115-113 scorecards suggests it was a close contest… it was not. The Brit was lucky to get through to the final bell.
Derek Chisora: There’s often reports of Chisora either doing well or even winning this fight against Usyk; both are far from the truth. Chisora’s pressure gave Usyk a real test of his skills, chin and stamina up at heavyweight, which was just what he needed, but he was fully in control of every minute of every round.
Chazz Witherspoon: Usyk’s first attempt up at heavyweights with the big boys, in 2018, lasted seven rounds. He showed some good signs and some needs for improvements, but it was clear to all that a new Sheriff had arrived in town.
