Daniel Dubois’ trainer Don Charles expected to be absent on fight night
There has been plenty of speculation and false rumours circulating during fight week, with many claiming that the absent Don Charles had been sacked by Daniel Dubois just days before his IBF World heavyweight title showdown with Anthony Joshua at Wembley, this Saturday night.
However, it has now been confirmed that Dynamite’s trainer Don Charles has been absent from fight week proceedings due to feeling ill from a cold and it is uncertain if he will be in the corner on fight night.
Dubois is heading into the biggest fight of his career this Saturday night, September 21, and might be doing so without his head trainer.
There were rumours that Dubois and Charles had gone their separate ways just days before fight night, fueled further by the introduction of newest trainer Kieran Farrell.
Former pro ‘Vicious’ Farrell had been added to the team recently for his padwork.
However, Sky Sports News today reported that the reason for Charles’ absence is due to the trainer suffering from a cold and that Team Dubois are sensibly taking no chances this close to the fight.
They also rubbished rumours of a split and insisted that Charles is staying away to protect his heavyweight world champion from catching his cold from him.
Pundit Spencer Fearon was one of those quick to comment before the facts had been shared, “I know there’s been some rift between Don Charles and the dad. Daniel is a lovely kid but his dad is a scumbag. He’s not real, he’s fake, because when Usyk beat Dubois, I begged for Don Charles not to lose his job.”
Charles wasn’t in attendance at yesterdays public workout and won’t be present for the final press conference later today, which can be watched live on YouTube.
