Carl Froch reveals which fight he is looking forward to the most
Retired world champion Carl Froch has broken down how he thinks the Matchroom vs Queensberry 5 on 5 event will play out this summer.
This much-anticipated event takes place on June 1st as the undercard to a huge light heavyweight showdown between Artur Beterbiev and Dimitriy Bivol which will see an undisputed four-belt champion crowned.
Both British promoters have thrown down the gauntlet with this tournament and very much put their reputations on the line. They’ve meticulously selected their fighters for each matchup and will be aiming for victory to accumulate points and secure ultimate bragging rights.
In this high-stakes tournament, a decision win earns one point, a knockout awards two points, and a draw yields no points.
Captains who emerge victorious receive double points and Eddie Hearn has entrusted American Deontay Wilder to lead Matchroom’s charge as captain, pitting him against Chinese powerhouse Zhilei Zhang.
Meanwhile, Frank Warren has chosen Londoner Hamzah Sheeraz to represent Queensberry in his clash with Austin ‘Ammo’ Williams.
Former Matchroom fighter Froch has spoken on his own podcast about the heavyweight contests.
“It’s a good bit of banter between them. Just bragging rights, but Wilder vs Zhang is the fight I’m looking forward to. Both lost to [Joseph] Parker, both lost on points, but Wilder got a bit easier, and Zhang dropped Parker but got tired in the end. He’s pushing 40 now. I like him, he’s charismatic, but he’s just getting old.
He then broke down another of the heavyweight contests.
“The other one I’m looking forward to is Hrgovic versus Dubois, who wins that one? I’d like to think Daniel Dubois. It’s exciting because the winner of that could fight Anthony Joshua.”
