Frazer Clarke questions Zhilei Zhang’s stamina in upcoming Deontay Wilder clash
Unbeaten Brit Frazer Clarke has given his view on what might happen when big-hitting heavyweights Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang come to blows in Saudi Arabia in June.
Clarke is still receiving plaudits for a hugely entertaining bout of his own. Last time out, he took on reigning champion Fabio Wardley in a classic British heavyweight title showdown.
It was a back and forth affair with Clarke suffering a badly broken nose early in the fight and blood streaming throughout the contest.
Clarke was put down but managed to rally and at the conclusion of all rounds, it was ruled a draw, with plenty of talk about a rematch being next up for both men.
Now, he has turned his attention to the rest of the division and spoken to Boxing Social about how he sees this one going after Zhang said he would come into the ring in better shape than last time against Joseph Parker, when he lost on points despite scoring two knockdowns.
“You can talk about Zhang saying he won’t make that mistake again, but being that big I don’t think he’s going to be great in the second half of the fight.
“It could be a four or five round shootout, that one. That fight is about Wilder using his brain. It’s not about standing there and trading with Zhang, use your feet, use what you’re good at and I think he can win quite well.”
Wilder and Zhang fight on June 1 on the undercard of the undisputed title fight between Artur Beterbiev and Dimitri Bivol and are part of the Matchroom vs Queensbury 5 v 5 card that also features the likes of Fillip Hrgovic against Daniel Dubois.
