Frank Warren says he is going to sue Chris Eubank Jr for derogatory remarks made at press conference
Chris Eubank Jr sparked controversy during a press conference this week when he said many of today’s boxing promoters are “scumbags”, referring directly towards Frank Warren and Eddie Hearn.
The Brighton boxer was part of the line-up for the press conference for Artur Beterbiev vs Dmitry Bivol ahead of their undisputed light-heavyweight clash in Saudi on October 12.
Eubank Jr will fight former European champion Kamil Szeremeta for the IBO World middleweight title.
When asked why he picked BOXXER as his latest promoter, Eubank Jr said, “Why BOXXER? Because every other promoter out here is a scumbag – that’s why.
“We’ve got Frank Warren behind me, he has been lying and cheating his way through boxing for the last couple of decades. He sued me for a couple hundreds of thousands a few years ago, so obviously I was never going to go with him, the guy is a scumbag.
“Kalle Sauerland, he had me locked up in a terrible contract for the last few years – squeezing money out of me at every opportunity – scumbag. Eddie Hearn and Frank Smith – they did everything that they could to try and make this fight against Conor Benn still go ahead – scumbags.
The only people that Eubank Jr. praised was His Excellency, Turki Alalshikh and Ben Shalom, for not taking money from boxers, “I would say that the only promoter that I know for sure isn’t a scumbag is His Excellency, Turki Alalshikh,” he added.
“So yes – scumbags. The only one who isn’t is Turki Alalshikh. This is a man who isn’t trying to take money for fighters, and use lawyers and accountants in slave contracts.”
Clearly angered, Warren, 72, shouted back, “Speak up, I can’t hear you!”
Hall of Fame promoter Frank Warren responded by promising to sue Eubank Jr again, revealing to TalkSport: “The bottom line of it is very simple. He was sued by me for a legal breach of a contract and I was successful in suing him and he paid substantial damages.
“Now you know what, he can’t accept is what’s legal and what’s not. And as regarding what he’s just said, just so you know, I’m gonna keep it short and sweet… he’s gonna get sued again for the comments that he’s made publicly.”
Chris Eubank Jr has since retracted his words and issued a public apology.
