Frank Warren reveals what he and Tyson Fury did during Anthony Joshua vs Francis Ngannou fight
Frank Warren was sat ringside with Tyson Fury during Anthony Joshua’s fight with Francis Ngannou and has since revealed a surprise decision made by The Gypsy King.
Joshua was in fine form during the fight with the former UFC champion, putting him down twice before then poleaxing him early in the second round with a huge right hand that left him out cold on the canvas.
Fury was sat right in the front row of the crowd for the fight so got a great view of ice-cold knockout. That was something he failed to do when he met Ngannou back in October. Instead, it was him put on his backside in the third round and he only managed to narrowly eek out a points win over 10 rounds.
Speaking to talkSPORT Fight Night with John Rawling on Saturday, Warren revealed Fury’s thoughts.
“He was very impressed. As you say, I was next to him there and he was cheering him on. We were both cheering him on as we wanted him to come through and needless to say he came through in style.”
Despite Joshua’s superb performance, Warren is still backing his man and reckons that Fury remains the best heavyweight on the planet.
“AJ he’s got a new trainer in Ben Davison and he’s obviously getting the best out of him. He’s had two fights in Saudi Arabia that have got him back into the public eye. The first is against Otto Wallin and the other against Francis Ngannou – and he did what he had to do.
“But, for me, Tyson is the number one heavyweight. He’s the lineal champion and he’s done it at the highest level.”
Fury will have to prove this when he takes on Oleksandr Usyk, the unified heavyweight champion, when they battle it out for all four belts on May 18.
