Warren peruses potential Klitschko comeback
British boxing promoter Frank Warren remained cautious over a remarkable comeback for former heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko and a rematch with Tyson Fury.
Earlier this month, Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh expressed his desire to set the wheels in motion for an incredible rematch between the two following Fury’s epic win back in 2015.
However, Warren explained to the Parimatch boxing betting site that all eyes should be on how Fury performs against Oleksandr Usyk on December 21 first of all.
He said: “Let’s see Tyson fight first and see where we go.
“I know Wladimir wants to come back and he is in tremendous condition. He isn’t a young man anymore but he has looked after himself.
“He believes he can do it but whether he can or not is another matter. All I want to do is focus on the fight on the 21st in Riyadh as that is something special.”
Warren added that should Klitschko make a sensational comeback, he is fitter than some other stars in the division who have gone down that path, including George Foreman.
“I promoted George when he came back and brought him over to the UK on his journey to win the title again”, explained Warren.
“He [Klitschko] is fitter than George was and has kept himself in better condition, that’s for sure.”
48-year-old Klitschko hasn’t fought since his 11th round knockout defeat to Anthony Joshua in 2017.
Dr. Steelhammer hung up his gloves after that second successive defeat and has been retired for over seven years now.
