Frank Warren is angry over comments made by Oleksandr Usyk’s team
Hall of Fame promoter Warren responds to Usyk’s promoter Alex Krassuk, who told Boxing News that the relationship between the two teams is not great.
This transpired after comments that were made when Fury pulled out of the undisputed fight set for February 17 due to a cut above his right eye.
But Warren refuses to go in on Usyk’s manager, who questioned the validity of Fury’s injury.
Speaking to Boxing Social, Warren said: “Is this the same Egis Klimas who said that Tyson had cut his eye on purpose? Next.”
Commenting on how the situation played out, he added: “It was pretty awful, but that’s boxing.”
The sparring accident has pushed the showdown back to May 18, with the full card also moved to the new date in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Now, it would seem that there is an added narrative to thicken the plot, which can only make for a more fiery build-up.
But while there is bitterness between both teams, the quick turnaround can largely be credited to Turki Alalshikh, who revealed that if either fighter pulled out now they would be met with a hefty financial penalty.
Warren also attacked the boxing media for its coverage of the cancellation of Fury vs Usyk.
With rumours circulating that IBF mandatory challenger Filip Hrgovic could replace the WBC and lineal heavyweight champion, allowing the show to go on the original date, Warren expressed his frustration with the false media reports.
He also told Boxing Social, “Some of the b****cks they come out with is beyond me.
“There is a contract that has an injury clause in it.”
So with the show still going ahead, Hrgovic is expected to wait in the wings before getting his big opportunity.
As will the winner of Anthony Joshua vs Francis Ngannou, with the two heavyweight giants meeting on March 8 to determine who is next in line.
