Frank Warren pays tribute to boxing legend
Frank Warren is a true veteran of the boxing game so is well placed to talk about who sees as ‘one of the best’ heavyweights ever.
Warren’s Queensbury promotions have been involved in the sport for decades and have promoted plenty of epic fights through the years across all weight categories. Right now, his stable is in as good a shape as it has ever been with world champions and exciting prospects up and down the divisions.
In the banner division alone, he has WBC and lineal champion Tyson Fury, young contender Daniel Dubois, Olympic medalist Joe Joyce and big-hitting veteran Zhilei Zhang, as well as exciting prospects Moses Itauma tipped for success, and he has now been asked to speak on who he thinks is the best-ever heavyweight.
In a video clip from Queensbury posted on X, Warren was asked to rank Mike Tyson (4th), Tyson Fury (2nd), George Foreman (3rd), Lennox Lewis (5th) and Muhammad Ali (1st).
However, Warren had a complaint at the end of the clip, “You left one of the best out though – Larry Holmes.”
Holmes was a long-time sparring partner of Ali who eventually went on to beat his hero with his famously expert jab. ‘The Easton Assassin’ is widely considered one of the greatest of his era and reigned as world heavyweight champion from 1978 until 1985.
Fury, who Warren ranked second, will be hoping to change that by becoming undisputed champion and beating Oleksandr Usyk on February 17, even if his father John doesn’t think much of Tyson’s training team.
