Frank Warren wants to line up one of his heavyweights to fight Anthony Joshua next
Speaking to Sky Sports, promoter Frank Warren said, “I’d love to see that fight happen”, referring directly to AJ fighting the winner of Filip Hrgovic vs Daniel Dubois, taking place on June 1st.
“I’d like to see Daniel come through, I’d love to see an all-Brit affair, who knows? We’ll see.”
IBF #1 Hrgovic puts his mandtaory position on the line when he faces Londoner Dubois in Riyadh, as part of the revolutionary 5 vs 5 card between Matchroom Boxing and Queensberry Promotions.
As Tyson Fury has triggered the rematch clause against Oleksandr Usyk, due to take place around October 12-13 this year, it manes that Joshua’s dream fight against either man will be delayed until next year, at least.
The Watford man has been eyeing a fight in September to keep him busy until he can force his shot at the undisputed championship, now held by former foe, Usyk.
Joshua lost his unified heavyweight titles to the challenger Usyk in 2021 at Wembley, then failed to recapture them in the immediate rematch 11 months on in August, in Jeddah.
The 34-year-old Brit has since bounced back with four straight wins, his last three victories ending via knockout within seven rounds.
His recent run of form now sees him placed WBC #1, WBA #2, IBF #3, WBO #1, IBO #1.
