Filip Hrgovic sends warning to Daniel Dubois over past sparring
Croatian heavyweight Filip Hrgovic has sent a warning to his next opponent Daniel Dubois and has referenced past sparring the two have shared together.
Hrgovic and Dubois is one of the most intriguing fights ti have been revealed for the Matchroom vs Queensbury 5 on 5 card which takes place as the undercard to the undisputed light heavyweight title showdown between Dimitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev on June 1.
Dubois is arguably in better form as he defeated the 300 lbs Jarrell Miller on the Day of Reckoning card back in December and has also beaten the likes of Trevor Bryan and Kevin Larena, though has lost to Usyk and Joe Joyce.
Hrgovic meanwhile was thought by many to be lucky to get a points decision over Zhilei Zhnaag back in 2022 and since then has fought lower-level opposition in Demsey McKean and Mark de Mori
Dubois mentioned some past sparring at the recent press conference to announce the fight in a video caught by DAZN.
“We had a spar a while back and I just want to show him that people change, I’m a different animal now.”
Hrgovic responded with a threat of his own.
“I hope so he changed cause if he didn’t change it will last few rounds only. That sparring wasn’t good for him.”
The two heavyweights might well be fighting for the vacant IBF belt which is expected to become free in the immediate aftermath of Tyson Fury versus Oleksandr Usyk’s undisputed battle on May 18.
