Key points:
- October’s slate runs from a British final eliminator to a Halloween night headlined by Canelo Alvarez
- Daniel Dubois defends his WBO heavyweight title in a rematch with Fabio Wardley on October 17
- Two separate 130-pound unification storylines land on the same date, October 24
- Canelo Alvarez closes out the month against new WBC champion Christian Mbilli on October 31
A genuinely packed month, running from a domestic eliminator in Birmingham to Canelo closing it out on Halloween night.
October 3 – Whittaker vs Wallace, Birmingham
Ben Whittaker’s IBF light heavyweight final eliminator against Conor Wallace, live on DAZN. Winner becomes mandatory challenger for Dmitry Bivol’s title.
October 17 – Dubois vs Wardley 2, London
Daniel Dubois’ first defence of his WBO heavyweight title, a rematch after Wardley dropped him twice before losing by 11th-round stoppage in May. Sebastian Fundora also defends his WBC title against Ermal Hadribeaj on the same date.
October 21 – Munguia’s deadline, not a fight
Worth flagging even though nothing’s scheduled: Jaime Munguia’s camp has until this date to reach terms with mandatory challenger Bektemir Melikuziev, or it heads to a purse bid.
October 24 – two separate 130-pound stories, same night
Dalton Smith defends his WBC super lightweight title against Alberto Puello in Sheffield. Separately, O’Shaquie Foster and Emanuel Navarrete meet in San Antonio for a three-belt super featherweight unification.
October 31 – Canelo vs Mbilli, Halloween
Canelo’s return against new WBC champion Christian Mbilli, originally pencilled in for September before being pushed back. The drug testing arrangements for this one are still being sorted out with less than a month to go.
What’s still outstanding
No confirmed date yet for Jaron Ennis vs Josh Kelly, despite terms being agreed on Kelly’s side. Keep an eye on that one landing somewhere in November instead.
