Chris Eubank Jr. vs Conor Benn PPV results appear to be lower than expected
The recent Chris Eubank Jr. vs Conor Benn fight grudge match at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, on April 26, reportedly generated around 620,000 pay-per-view (PPV) buys, according to Ring Magazine, a significant drop from promoter Eddie Hearn’s initial claim of over one million buys worldwide.
Despite the intense, back and forth 12-round battle, that Eubank Jr. won by unanimous decision, the lower than expected PPV figures have sparked debate.
While Matchroom’s Hearn suggested DAZN and Sky Sports performed strongly, the revised numbers indicate the event, though sold-out and successful, didn’t reach the blockbuster status predicted, raising questions about the fight’s global draw.
Eubank Jr. vs Benn seemingly delivered in every which way both inside and outside of the ring, yet the numbers are disappointing. Both boxers have fought in the States, but it appears their global presence isn’t very high, as the reduced views suggest they only registered interest in the UK.
The build-up to the long-standing grudge match between Eubank Jr. and Benn, which began with the two fights between their fathers, Chris Eubank Sr. and Nigel Benn, in 1990 and 1993, led to a huge stadium event, when initially they were due to meet at the 20,000-capacity O2 Arena in Greenwich.
Benn’s failed drug tests and subsequent ban from boxing only elevated the anticipation, narrative and expectations of the fight further, resulting in the promotion to a large football stadium to host the family feud.
Although every seat was sold and the fight delivered beyond expectations, it appears their global reach fell short.
