Edgar Berlanga stops Padraig McCrory in six then asks Eddie Hearn to get him the Canelo fight next
Super-middleweight sensation Edgar Berlanga (22-0, 17KO) was just too powerful for undefeated Irishman Padraig McCrory (18-1, 9KO), his big right hand doing the main damage.
The Puerto Rican kept his unbeaten record intact with a sixth-round stoppage at the Caribe Hotel in Florida on February 24.
The 26-year-old American sent Belfast boxer McCrory to the canvas with an overhand right with 25 seconds left of the sixth stanza in Orlando.
Despite “The Hammer” returning to his feet to fight on, the towel had already been thrown in by his corner team.
35-year-old McCrory started brightly but Berlanga kept the pressure on, barely taking a backwards step.
“The Chosen One” declared that he wants the big fight with Mexican superstar, Canelo, next.
“I want him now,” Berlanga demanded after his latest win.
“Look at Eddie [Hearn] right there. He’s going to make it happen.”
Canelo is currently without an opponent for his next fight date on May 4, despite reports that he would be facing Jermall Charlo next.
