Matchroom Promoter, Eddie Hearn, has gunned for one fighter, as well as their promotional outfit, after they swerved the opportunity to fight for the world title, despite being ordered for for the vacant title.
Eddie Hearn slams Caroline Dubois
Hearn recently revealed that Rhiannon Dixon would face Karen Carabajal for the WBO Lightweight title, which was recently vacated by Katie Taylor, rather than taking on fellow Brit, Caroline Dubois, for the vacant IBF crown, also formerly belonging to Taylor.
In an interview with October Red, Hearn honestly explained the decision but called out Dubois for refusing to fight Beatriz Ferreira, another of Matchroom’s contenders at the weight, for the vacant IBF belt.
“Rhiannon Dixon’s team said that they think that is an easier fight, and that they should take that fight and do it in Manchester and I said O.K.. We looked at the IBF rankings, next in line was Beatriz Ferreira, who is our girl, you have heard me on numerous occasions talk about Ferreira-Dubois as one of the best fights in boxing. Rhiannon Dixon agreed terms to fight Carabajal and about three weeks ago the IBF ordered Caroline Dubois against Beatriz Ferreira, so we made them an offer to do that fight in America or Mexico, and we didn’t hear back.
They then decided to fight this Saturday and under the IBF rules as everybody knows, Boxxer included, when you are in negotiations for a world title fight, you cannot have an interim bout and if you do it, you disqualify yourself from the situation. The Dubois camp have been made aware that if they fight this Saturday, they will be out of the running to fight for the world title against Beatriz Ferreira and they have chosen to still fight this Saturday. It’s a nice way for them to avoid the Beatriz Ferreira fight.”
Dixon takes on Carabajal on April 13th on the Gill-Barrett undercard, in her maiden bid for a world title.
