Eddie Hearn responds to Oscar De La Hoya’s snobby social media statements
On April 25, Oscar De La Hoya left the following comment on one of Eddie Hearn’s recent Instagram posts: “Eddie, for the sake of British Boxing, just stay in the UK and promote, leave the real promoters to the U.S. market where boxing matters. You had your opportunity, wasting away hundreds of millions of dollars building nothing in the U.S.”
The British promoter, Hearn, responded back within the hour with a brutal and amusing reply, “Genuinely are you ok? You stalk me like a crazed fan. You had a great win on Saturday, yet I consume your mind 24/7.
“Unfortunately for you, I am a global promoter with 18 World Champions (you have 4). I have big plans to work with everyone to grow the sport globally and have some fantastic talent in the U.S. market.
“Genuinely wish you all the best and hope you can enjoy what you do.”
De La Hoya promotes Ryan Garcia, who was able to shock the world with a win over Matchroom’s WBC super-lightweight world champion Devin Haney on points, last weekend, April 20.
Despite being widely written off after months of bizarre behaviour and missing weight by 3.2lbs, the 25-year-old Californian was able to go from underdog to upsetter with a career-best performance at the Baclays Center in Brooklyn, flooring Haney three times over the thrilling 12-round tussle.
Despite being ineligible to win the WBC title, Garcia is now boxing’s hottest property, and will be able to call the shots regarding his next move. As such, he has requested a rematch with his only conqueror, Gervonta Davis.
