Boxing world in shock at surprise Dillian Whyte verdict
It was revealed yesterday that Dillian Whyte has been cleared to return to boxing following drug testing irregularities and now his former promoter Eddie Hearn has reacted to the shock news.
Whyte has been all but silent and hidden away for almost all of the last year, ever since drug testing irregularities meant that he was pulled from his last fight just days before.
That was due to be a rematch against Anthony Joshua in London back in August. The heavyweights renewed their rivalry from the amateurs in December 2015, with AJ getting his own back for a previous loss to stop Whyte in seven rounds.
Dillian Whyte has always fought at the top level but has never won a world title despite a shot at WBC ruler Tyson Fury back in 2022. He has also fought the likes of Joseph Parker, Derek Chisora, Alexander Povetkin and Jermaine Franklin.
Speaking to Boxing News, Hearn has now shared his views on the fact that Dillian Whyte has been cleared to fight and that his drug test failure was put down to a contaminated supplement.
“I wasn’t involved with it. I’ve just seen one article on Sky Sports, I believe it was the Texas Commission, I don’t know the British Board’s position on it. Good for Dillian Whyte to get back in the mix. I haven’t spoken to him since we received the result for the Joshua fight, obviously, he lost out on that and the whole of this mix in Saudi Arabia so obviously he will be looking to get back in the ring ASAP.”
Now that he is cleared to fight, Whyte will be keen to lock in his first opponent for 12 months. Fight fans have been responding to the news on social media with their choices of next opponent for ‘The Body Snatcher’, Andy Ruiz; Daniel Dubois; Martin Bakole; Joe Joyce; Jarrell Miller; Joseph Parker, were the top names on the list.
