Eddie Hearn hails new Matchroom signing as “One bad, bad man!”
Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn is delighted with one of his newest signings to the Matchroom stable and has called him ‘one bad, bad man.’
44-year-old Hearn works with some of the biggest names in the sport from Anthony Joshua to Connor Ben. He has also promoted undisputed champions such as Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Devin Haney, and is soon to be involved in a historic night in Saudi Arabia.
One June 1, not only will Matchroom fighter Dimitry Bivol have a shot at claiming all four world light heavyweight titles when he faces Artur Beterbiev, but the whole stable is set to go up against Frank Warren’s Queensberry in a 5 v 5 contest up and down the weights.
Ahead of that much anticipated card, Hearn has revealed in a post on X that he has a new signing in Puerto Rican star, Subriel Matias.
“This is a huge signing. Welcome to the team Subriel Matias one bad bad man!
@daznboxing”
31-year-old Matias is the IBF world super lightweight champion and has had 20 fights, winning them all by knockout.
He claimed his red and gold title from Jeremias Nicolas Ponce in February 2023 and defended it once against Shohjahon Ergashev in November of the same year, both via fifth-round knockout.
The orthodox fighter from Fajardo, Puerto Rico goes by the of alias ‘El Orgullo de Maternillo’, which translates simply to ‘The Pride of Maternillo’, and is a feared opponent thanks to his undoubted punching power – 20 wins, 20 KOs!
His sole defeat came on a points reversal to Petros Ananyan in 2020, but has since forced his next five opponents to retire.
Hearn will now be looking to pitch him against fellow division champions such as Teofimo Lopez who he might see as someone that is very beatable after his last showing.
