Don Charles fires shots at Oleksandr Usyk
Daniel Dubois’s trainer Don Charles issued a warning to Oleksandr Usyk in an interview with talkSPORT: “Usyk is fake. Exceptional boxer. But he’s a fake and a liar and a cheat.
“He is a guy who says he’s a God fearing man, he’s always crossing himself.
“This is going out to Usyk – if you believe in the same God that I do, one of the 10 commandments is you cannot cheat. Make your mind up, do you worship God or not? Because if you do, the cheating and the acting he did when Daniel dropped him, he should win an Oscar for that acting…
“I dare him, Usyk, to get [back] in the ring with Dubois.”
Daniel Dubois’ (22-2, 21KO) last loss came at the hands of the brilliant Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14KO) in August 2023. The Ukrainian showed how elite he was with a comprehensive beatdown over the Brit, who just couldn’t get used to the movement of the unified world champion to get his own shots off.
In round five, a low blow from Dubois dropped Usyk, who was given many minutes to recover. It sparked a huge debate following the bout with the public split as to whether it was a foul or not. It’s a debate that still divides opinions, even though the WBA investigated it and also ruled it low.
In round nine, a second knockdown caused Dubois to take a knee and stay down. The constant peppering of jabs, crosses and hooks wore the Londoner down until he couldn’t continue.
But then, the 27-year-old bounced back with three knockout victories in nine months, over 333lbs Jarrell Miller, undefeated IBF #1 Filip Hrgovic, and two-time world champion Anthony Joshua.
The IBF World heavyweight champion will now be a contender for Fighter of the Year. And he could be first in line to face the winner of Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk 2, who fight in a rematch in December.
