Daniel Dubois is proud trainer Don Charles’ first world champion boxer
Daniel Dubois became veteran trainer Don Charles’ first world champion on Saturday night, September 21, at Wembley Stadium.
27-year-old Dubois dismantled Anthony Joshua in devastating fashion, dropping the favourite in the very first round, then many more times after to win in round five via KO.
Although he was the holder of the IBF World heavyweight title, Dubois had been elevated from Interim champion, so he was fighting to legitimise his status as the full world champion, which he did emphatically in front of 96,000 fans.
Best known for his work with Derek Chisora, Don Charles has only been working with DDD since 2023. when the pair travelled to Warsaw together to challenge unified champ, Oleksandr Usyk, ending via defeat in round nine.
They bounced back to stop Jarrell Miller four months later in December, then they battered IBF #1 Filip Hrgovic last June to secure the IBF Interim belt. When Usyk vacated the title, Dubois was promoted to full champion, but he needed the win over AJ to cement his status.
Don Charles shared his pride and joy at winning his first world title, “I’ve always been on a mission. From the day I arrived in England back in October 1974, which coincided with the Rumble In The Jungle Muhammad Ali vs George Foreman [50 years ago]. I was 14 and that’s what got me into boxing. How fitting that I train a heavyweight world champion on the 50th anniversary.”
Speaking to @SecondsOutLive, he added, “Triple D, I love you, thank you. And I thank your father for bringing you into my life. If I die tomorrow, my heart is in peace. You’ve taken me to my destiny. Thank you.”
