Dillian Whyte scores KO in ring return
Dillian Whyte (30-3, 20KO) got back to winning ways this year past weekend after a long battle to clear his name following a failed drug test last summer.
In a welcome return, on Sunday, March 17, Whyte triumphed over Christian Hammer with a third-round stoppage, marking his first fight since November 2022.
Whyte’s comeback follows clearance to resume his career after a positive drug test linked to a contaminated supplement, an incident he vehemently denied but one that kept him out of a huge rematch with Anthony Joshua back in August and has since spoken about his old rival’s recent performances.
Fighting in Castlebar, Ireland, on St. Patrick’s Day, the 35-year-old swiftly defeated Romanian-born Hammer who took plenty of punishment to the body and was withdrawn from the match before the start of the fourth round.
This victory underscores Whyte’s resilience and determination to get back to his best and takes his record to 30-3. Now many more challenges lay ahead for the man who has fought the likes of Anthony Joshua, Joe Joyce, Alexander Povetkin, Tyson Fury and Derek Chisora.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Whyte admitted he still has world title hopes.
“‘I’d love to have one more crack at a world title. That’s the goal. I’ve done almost everything there is to do in boxing. I’ve been on the good and the bad. I just need to win a world title and then that will be the icing on the cake.”
