Devin Haney destroys Ryan Garcia’s credibility as an opponent
Devin Haney (31-0, 15KO) is deep in camp to take on Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20KO) on April 20 and has now given his naming verdict on how he ranks his opponent.
This fight has already generated plenty of news given how Garcia has behaved in the build-up.
Many people worry about the state of his mental health given the things he has been doing, from admitting to smoking and drinking, arriving at a press conference on a horse, criticising Haney’s religion, complaining about the location of the fight and price of tickets, and even threatening to sue the New York Commission should they try and to get professional assessment of his mental state after warning Haney that his power will be the difference.
Now, speaking to FigthHubTV in a clip shared on X, Devin ‘The Dream’ was asked to assess his long-term rival Garcia as an opponent.
“I think it’s a mismatch. Ryan Garcia is a C+ fighter, you know, with a big name, he has a name but he’s not on my level, he’s not on the elite level, and I will attempt to show that there are levels to this.
“I’m a far better fighter, and me and Ryan shouldn’t be in the ring. If he didn’t have a name, we wouldn’t be sharing the ring.”
The fight with Haney at the Barclays Centre will be Garcia’s second shot at a world title after a failed attempt last April against Gervonta Davis. Haney meanwhile has been the undisputed champion at lightweight and now holds the super lightweight belt that he will be defending against Garcia.
Garcia recently shared more sparring footage of Haney and came under fire for his actions once more.
The pair have been rivals ever since the amateurs, with the score between them tied at 3-3. The American super-lightweights have a genuine dislike for each other, they even began brawling straight after the fight announcement when they came to face to face backstage in February.
The WBC World super lightweight clash on the 20th will easily be the biggest fight of the calendar month, with the PPV price just recently announced this week.
