Derek Chisora responds to Carl Froch and Johnny Nelson
Never one to shy away from an opinion, British heavyweight Derek Chisora has responded to Carl Froch and Johnny Nelson’s criticisms of Tyson Fury.
Chisora has of course fought Fury three times over his career, most recently in 2022 when he once again succumbed to ‘The Gypsy King’, this time by stoppages in round 10, to make it three losses out of three.
He has since come back with a solid win over Gerald Washington since then and is now waiting for the right fights to see out his long and storied career in the ring.
In the meantime, he has spoken about the various barded words aimed at Fury by retired champions Froch and Nelson with regard to his alleged below-par performances in sparring.
Speaking to Boxing Social, Chisora said no one cares what happens behind closed doors.
“If Tyson gets knocked down in sparring, nobody cares. That’s why it’s called sparring, You use 22 oz gloves, and a head guard; you spar Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, you’re tired, you’re just trying to get your mind and the body ready for the real fight.”
He then spoke more directly about Nelson’s comments.
“Someone should ask Johnny how many times he has been knocked down in sparring. I love Sky but right now they are hating for no reason. What they do is great, they don’t have blockbuster fighters yet but they are producing them. Johnny doesn’t need to be saying things like he is.”
