Deontay Wilder vs Jared Anderson planned for overseas Riyadh Season event in America
Heavyweight contender Jared Anderson (17-0, 15 KOs) is set to face former WBC champion Deontay Wider (43-3-1, 42 KOs) on the first Riyadh Season card to take place in America.
Turki Alalshikh – who spearheaded Riyadh Season in Saudi Arabia – took to social media on Tuesday, posting a photo of himself standing next to Anderson.
His show at the BMO Stadium, Los Angeles, will be headlined by Terence Crawford vs Israil Madrimov for the WBA super welterweight title, and he teases that an intriguing heavyweight showdown could feature on the undercard.
On X, Alalshikh said: “The talented Jared Anderson is with us now on August 3rd Riyadh Season card at LA against the “Bronze Bomber” Deontay Wilder…
“I always believe that boxing would be at its peak when you have young American heavyweights like Jared Anderson…
“My advice to him – Focus on your future, training, and commitment and you will reach to your goals.”
Anderson comes off an uninspiring performance against Ryad Merhy, outpointing the former cruiserweight contender in a dull affair last April.
Since he went the distance with former heavyweight champion Charles Martin back in July last year, his promoter, Top Rank, has chosen to pump the breaks on the 24-year-old’s career, showing less of a willingness to take on risky opponents.
However, with Wilder’s name now being thrown into the conversation, it seems that Anderson may be looking to fast-track his way to a title shot after all.
Wilder comes off a one-sided defeat to Joseph Parker, who scored a comprehensive unanimous decision victory over the American back in December last year.
The 38-year-old now looks to remain at the top of the division with a win in his next fight on June 1, when he takes on China’s Zheili Zhang.
Should he come through this test, it is possible that Wilder will meet Anderson in an unexpected crossroads matchup.
