Trainer Malik Scott posted a clip of Deontay Wilder looking in fight shape
Deontay Wilder has entered 2024 with a point to prove and it seems as though his first fight of the year is just around the corner, whilst recent training footage has seemed to confirm the man who will be in the opposing corner.
Wilder had fought just one round in two years when he entered the ring to fight Joseph Parker, where a win would seal the deal for the long-awaited showdown with long-term rival Anthony Joshua. However, things did not go to plan for ‘The Bronze Bomber’, suffering a whitewash on the judges’ scorecards to the Kiwi underdog.
Since then, there has been suggestions that Wilder should retire from the sport, finding himself further away from a title opportunity than ever, yet his generational punch power makes him a threat to any fighter on the planet, even if his other abilities in the ring may be on the decline.
Rumours have now emerged that Wilder will fight on the hotly-anticipated Beterbiev-Bivol undercard that features five Matchroom fighters against five of the Queensberry stable, as the American is expected to be a ‘ringer’ for Eddie Hearn’s outfit and take on Parker’s most recent triumph, Zhilei Zhang.
On Instagram, Wilder’s trainer Malik Scott posted a clip where he was training his fighter on the pads from the southpaw stance, indicating that the whispers of a clash with ‘Big Bang’ Zhang may well be true, adding that Wilder has ‘bad intentions’ in the caption of the clip.
“Back on a serious mission with nothing but bad intentions”
The full June 1st undercard will be revealed on Monday April 15th, ahead of what is set to be a one-of-a-kind bill that could also feature a heavyweight world title bout.
