David Benavidez urges Turki Alalshikh to financially back the Canelo Alvarez fight
‘Mexican Monster’ David Benavidez has his next fight locked in but is still chasing an epic contest with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and has now made a plea to Turki Al-Sheikh to help him make it happen.
Al-Sheikh has made some seemingly impossible fights happen in recent years including Francis Ngannou versus Tyson Fury, Joshua versus Ngannou, and two upcoming undisputed fights in Fury versus Usyk on May 18 and Artur Beterbiev versus Dimitri Bivol in June.
Benavidez sees him as the man who can help him convince ‘Canelo’ to put his undisputed super middleweight titles on the line in what would be an all-Mexican show down. So far there has been plenty of back and forth between the two, but ‘Canelo’ hasn’t budged in his view that Benavidez offers nothing.
Benavidez is next out up at light heavyweight, while ‘Canelo’ is making his next defense against fellow Mexican Jaime Munguia on Cinco De Mayo.
Benevidez has been frank in his plea for the fight to happen in a new post on Instagram.
“@turkialalshik let’s bring the biggest and most exciting fight to Saudi Arabia. This will be the biggest Mexican vs Mexican American fight in the history of boxing and what better place to do it than The Kingdom, for the entire world to see. This fight is for pride and glory. I fight for greatness not money. Your Excellency if I do not beat Canelo, I will donate my entire purse to any kids charity of your liking. When I do beat Canelo, I will be donating a huge amount of that purse to benefit children hunger across the world. I’m a champion of the people and will continue to fight the best! I stand by my words! @premierboxing @wbcboxing @wbcmoro”
This is a huge statement from Benevidez that once again ramps up the pressure to try and get this fight made.
