Daniel ‘Dynamite’ Dubois keen to prove Eddie Hearn wrong
Eddie Hearn and Frank Warren’s highly anticipated five vs five contest is drawing ever closer, with the event scheduled to take place June 1, on the undercard of Dmitry Bivol vs Artur Beterbiev.
Fighting on the card, Daniel Dubois is ready to put it all on the line for Queensbury as he takes on Filip Hrgovic in a contest that will likely see the winner teed up for a chance at world honours.
In an interview posted to X, Dubois appeared extremely keen to go one up over Matchroom in June.
“We want to beat Matchroom, don’t we? We want to beat Matchroom.”
There appears to be some external motivation for the 26-year-old, who feels that Hearn has doubted him in the past.
“Like I said, you can put them all into a group, all the naysayers. They’re all out there. When they see you they are all happy and everything, but when you are not doing so well they are quick to write you off and talk s**t about you.
“He’s [Eddie Hearn] said many things hasn’t he? He said before the fight with Baby Miller that if I lose, my career’s over and s**t like that, and you’ve got to think about that. I wish I was fighting him ya’know!”
Dubois last stepped into the ring in December, fighting Jarrell Miller as part of the ‘Day of Reckoning’ card. The Brit put on a spectacular performance in a back-and-forth brawl, managing to find a stoppage in the dying seconds of the final round.
His upcoming fight against Hrgovic gives the London-born fighter another chance to pave his way to a world title shot. ‘Dynamite’ last challenged for a title against Oleksandr Usyk in August.
Dubois was outclassed by his Ukrainian counterpart, dropped and stopped in the ninth round. However, the fight was not without controversy, Usyk looked in rough shape after a thundering body shot, however, the ref ruled the punch a low blow giving the unified champion ample time to recover.
Dubois vs Hrgovic is set to be streamed on DAZN to UK viewers.
