Daniel Dubois vs Anthony Joshua rematch date revealed
His Excellency Turki Alalshikh has told boxing fans to mark their calendars for a Daniel Dubois vs Anthony Joshua 2 rematch.
The date has been pencilled in for February 22, 2025, with the venue yet to be decided.
Their first fight was held at Wembley Stadium in front of a record audience of over 96,000, however the rerun is expected to take place in Saudi Arabia.
Daniel Dubois (22-2, 21KO) was the underdog going into the fight as the defending IBF World heavyweight champion against challenger Anthony Joshua (28-4, 25KO), who was expected to become a three-time world champion on September 21.
Instead, 27-year-old Dubois dropped him in the first round, then again in the third, fourth and fifth. It was a counter right hook that ended the bout 59 seconds into the fifth, with AJ unable to get back to his feet in time to beat the referee’s count.
Now 34, Joshua has lost four from his last 10 bouts and is only ranked IBF #8, WBO #7, IBO #5.
Some fight fans would prefer to see Dubois defend against a higher-ranked contender, such as IBF #3 Agit Kabayel or IBF #4 Martin Bakole.
Although the top choice is Joseph Parker (35-3, 23KO), who defeated Zhilei Zhang on points in March to become the WBO World Interim champion.
With Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk 2 set for December 21 for all the other belts, it means that an undisputed match between the winners will not take place until the middle of next year at the earliest.
