New trainer strengthens Daniel Dubois’ team
Seven months on from his valiant challenge for the unified heavyweight world titles, south Londoner Daniel Dubois (20-2, 19KO) is making changes to strengthen his training team.
Now, the 26-year-old has added a new trainer to his team as he seeks to continue and improve upon his already encouraging development.
Dubois knocked down Oleksandr Usyk for over three minutes, despite being a sizeable underdog when he faced the undefeated technician in Poland last August, but it was ruled a low blow and he was unable to clinch victory against the Ukrainian, eventually stopped in the ninth round after a sustained onslaught.
However, regardless of the loss, Dubois received credit for a spirited performance that proved that he belonged on the world stage.
Since then, Dubois’ reputation has increased further, following a career-best win over previously unbeaten American, Jarrell Miller, on the high-profile ‘Day of Reckoning’ card back in December, under the guidance of head trainer, Don Charles.
This week, ‘Triple D’ has added further experience to his team, appointing former Central Area lightweight champion, Kieran Farrell, as an additional trainer, as confirmed on Dubois’ Instagram.
Farrell was forced to hang up the gloves aged just 22-years-old, after sustaining serious head injuries to a battle against Anthony Crolla for the English title in December 2012, that resulted in the only loss on Farrell’s record.
Following his retirement, Farrell remained in the sport and set up his own promotional firm, ‘Vicious Promotions’, coined after his nickname as a fighter, and also worked as a trainer and manager, with his love for the sport remaining in defiance of his heart-breaking injury that derailed a promising career.
Farrell will be in Dubois’ corner when he returns to the ring, but it remains unknown as to when that may be, after the Brit turned down the chance to take on Ryad Merhy for the European title and the opportunity to face WBA (Regular) champion, Mahmoud Charr, which was instead given to Kubrat Pulev.
