Dana White pours water on Anthony Joshua’s sizzling knockout of Francis Ngannou
The president of the UFC, Dana White, has given his rather ruthless response to his former champion Francis Ngannou being knocked out by Anthony Joshua.
In a stunning display of power, Joshua delivered a resounding message to the heavyweight division with a brutal knockout victory over Ngannou in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Displaying his dominance early on, ‘AJ’ floored Ngannou in the first round with a thunderous jab, capitalising on a momentary switch to southpaw by Ngannou. Though the former UFC champion managed to survive the round, Joshua maintained control and secured another knockdown in the second round.
Despite Ngannou’s valiant efforts to recover, a devastating right hand from ‘AJ’ rendered him unconscious and sealed the victory for Joshua early in round two. Presumably, Joshua now sets his sights on potential matchups against the victor of Tyson Fury versus Oleksandr Usyk on May 18
In a video clip shared on X by MMA Junkie, White was asked for his verdict.
“If Fury trained for the fight and didn’t show up and look like he ate Tyson Fury, that’s probably the way that fight would’ve ended, too.”
I saw it on social media. Going into the Fury fight, if Fury trained for the fight and didn’t show up and look like he ate Tyson Fury, that’s probably the way that fight would’ve ended, too. You know how I feel about crossovers in boxing. That’s how they end. Just like that.”
With the fight ending the way it did, quite so conclusively, that might well be the end of Ngannou in boxing, if not all crossover fights completely.
