Dalton Smith vs Adam Azim potentially moves closer after new development
A much anticipated fight between two very bright British boxing prospects Dalton Smith (15-0, 11KO) and Adam Azim (11-0, 8KO) has moved a little closer this week in light of a new development behind the scenes.
Super lightweight prospect and EBU title holder Azim is 21 years old, while British and Commonwealth champion Smith is 27, and both youngsters are on a trajectory to become world champions.
‘The Assassin’ Azim was last out with a first defence his title on February 5 when Enoch Poulsen dislocated his shoulder in the fifth round and was counted out, while Smith is next out on March 23rd when he faces the dangerous Jose Zepeda in Sheffield.
Next up for both men after that could be a clash with one another as purse bids have been ordered for Azim to defend his title against ‘Thunder’ Smith.
Boxing journalist Michael Benson has confirmed the news in a recent message posted on X.
“The BBBofC have now joined with the EBU in ordering Dalton Smith vs Adam Azim next. Smith has the British super-lightweight title, Azim has the European super-lightweight title. Purse bids to be held by EBU have been rescheduled for April 3rd, split is 50/50.”
Some fans have pointed out that Ramadan falls in April and so Azim would be likely fasting and would need at least two months after that to get back in fight shape, meaning any potential showdown might not be possible until early summer.
