Anthony Crolla picks a stoppage in Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn fight
Ahead of one of the most talked-about domestic fights in recent memory, FreeBets.com sat down with former WBA world lightweight champion Anthony Crolla to get his thoughts, predictions and key insights on the Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn clash this Saturday night, April 26, in London’s Tottenham Hotspur stadium, live on DAZN PPV.
Crolla tips Eubank Jr to win by second-half stoppage
“I’m going with a Eubank Jr stoppage in the second half of the fight. His uppercut—especially the right one—is his best shot. I think that comes into play Saturday night.”
Weight advantage and big-fight experience favour Eubank Jr
“Junior just looks a much bigger man, naturally. When you look at the level of opposition Conor Benn’s faced, it’s not close to the guys Eubank Jr’s been in with.”
Rust and activity could be Benn’s undoing
“There’s a big step between looking good in the gym and performing on fight night. He was rusty last time out. Chris Eubank Jr is on a different level to anyone Conor’s fought.”
The fight is selling on story, not silverware
“They’re getting paid because of the rivalry—because of their dads, the history. It’s mad money, especially when it’s not even a world title fight.”
Conor Benn won’t stay at middleweight
“He looks good physically, but I don’t think he’ll stay at middleweight long-term. He’s the much smaller man in there.”
Sparring stories? Don’t read too much into them
“I’ve seen world champions look terrible in sparring and then perform brilliantly [in fights]. The small gloves, the crowd—it changes everything.”
On Eubank Sr’s disapproval
“Senior’s always been his own man. But Junior’s not the type to be distracted by that. He’s very focused—he’ll block all that out and do his job.”
Could we see Eubank Jr vs Canelo in 2025?
“There’s a decent chance it happens. But I’d make Canelo a big favourite—his defensive ability and timing would be too much. Still, it’d be entertaining while it lasts.”
If Eubank Jr loses—is this the end?
“Possibly. Junior’s made a lot of money. But if a rematch makes money, he might take it. He’s always going to be a big name in British boxing.”
Bonus insight on Tyson Fury: Is retirement real?
“No, I don’t think so. He’s back posting from the gym again. As long as fights like Joshua are on the table, I just can’t see him walking away.”
