Conor Benn performance comes under scrutiny
Conor Benn failed to impress many onlookers this past weekend and Terence Crawford’s trainer is one man who also wasn’t convinced, declaring that ‘he looked like trash.’
February 3 marked a Las Vegas debut for Brit boxer Benn, who still does not have a license to fight in the UK but has a hearing with the British Boxing Board of Control scheduled, in order to rectify that.
The contest was only his second in a couple of years and first one scheduled over the full 12-round distance. It did indeed last all 12, as Benn struggled to really make a dent in the game Pete Dobson. It was an engaging fight with plenty of back and forth though Benn was always in control and ran out a wide points winner.
In the wake of the fight which suggested Benn lacks a little power, Crawford’s trainer Brian ‘BoMac’ MacIntyre – who also happens to have trained Benn’s rival Chris Eubank Jr for his last fight against Liam Smith – has now passed comment.
Speaking to Boxing Social, he rather slated the performance, “I think he looked like trash. I didn’t even watch the fight, I was driving, I heard some of the coaches watching it and they were saying he looked like trash.
“I know Pete [Dobson] real well; Pete gave him a pretty tough fight so I don’t think much of him. I really don’t know of him, I just hear his name.”
Since Benn’s win, he has engaged in a war of words with multi-division champion Gervonta Davis and it is thought the two are now in negotiations for a fight later this year.
