December 7: Constantin Ursu vs Lewis Booth
Unbeaten Plymouth puncher Constantin Ursu (11-0, 4KO) is all set for a December 7 showdown with fellow undefeated welterweight Lewis Booth (15-0).
Their headlining fight at the Brentwood Centre on a Top Tier Boxing event has been made a final eliminator for the British and Commonwealth welterweight titles.
Former Southern Area welterweight champion, Ursu, who made his pro debut in Plymouth five years ago, is taking on Doncaster’s Booth in Essex, as part of the latest show promoted by Johnny Clark.
The winner of Ursu-Booth will move forward take on either Harry Scarff or Liam Taylor, who are locking horns for Scarff’s welterweight crown on a date yet to be confirmed.
24-year-old southpaw Ursu voluntarily gave up his Commonwealth Silver title for Elliot Whale and Lloyd Germain to contest, which Whale won within three rounds last September.
Ursu admitted afterwards that it was ‘a little bit of a concern’ for him, “I’ve been in England for nearly seven years and most fighters from England are avoiding me.”
But the approval by British Boxing Board of Control to make his clash with Booth a final eliminator means he cannot be overlooked anymore.
‘The Moldovan Monster’ added, “It’s very good for me, because he has 15 fights and 15 wins, it’s very good for me because I need to prove these things and fight with the best. I will expect he will try to fight the first couple of rounds with me, after he will understand it’s not the same level. I will knock him out because he will quit.”
Ursu’s trainer Marlee Dann added, “This is the chance Constantin has been waiting for. Now he has become unavoidable.
“Winning puts him in a position to be number one challenger to the British and Commonwealth titles. Promoters are already in negotiations with Constantin’s manager to sign him – 2025 will be a huge year for him.”
Ex-Central Area welterweight champion, Booth, has won all 15 pro fights, but has only fought against two fighters with a winning record. Ursu will be his first unbeaten opponent in his approaching 10-year career.
