Conor Benn promises to KO Peter Dobson
Unbeaten welterweight Conor Benn vows to deliver an emphatic finish against Peter Dobson, with the two fighters engaged in an intense build-up to their Las Vegas showdown on DAZN.
It was an unexpectedly volatile encounter when the pair met at the beginning of fight week, as there is still little known about Dobson from a British perspective.
But, what we do know now, is that the American refuses to give up an inch in the verbal back-and-fourth, with fans hoping to see similar energy from him on Saturday.
On DAZN, Benn said: “I’m coming here to absolutely destroy him. No nerves, just pure excitement.
“My record speaks for itself. Every time I’ve stepped up, I’ve proven myself, and I plan on doing exactly the same thing come Saturday night.”
The Essex boxer also invited his American opponent to meet him in the middle for a shootout.
“I’m coming out there and I’m going to come straight to him. Meet him in the middle. We’ll have a shoot-out, no problem, the more I talk the more he shakes. I’m coming for the knockout. This luxury kid that lives a privileged life, I’m coming out there to wipe you out, I swear on my life. I’m going in to take your head off your shoulders. He’s mad delusional, I like his confidence, the loudest one is the weakest one in the room.
“So I will do what I do and that’s get the knockout in absolutely devastating fashion. As soon as that bell goes, I’m launching a heavy right hand straight at his head, followed by a nasty left hook, and I might finish him off with another one-two if he’s not gone already.”
After failing two VADA tests prior to his scheduled fight with Chris Eubank Jr in 2022, Benn returned to the ring last year, beating Rodolfo Orozco via unanimous decision over ten rounds.
The fight took place in Orlando, Florida, as Benn is still yet to be licenced by the British Boxing Board of Control to box professionally in the UK.
While Orozco managed to hear the final bell following a hellacious onslaught from the 27-year-old, the tough Mexican later returned an adverse finding of his own in a subsequent VADA test.
Benn now looks for a step-up in class but, while his next opponent is undefeated in 16 fights, there is no yard-stick to gauge what level he is currently at.
Dobson, a career welterweight, will meet the Brit at 154 lbs, with Benn opting to campaign at a higher weight.
The card will also feature Benn’s gym-mates George Liddard and Jimmy Sains, as well as popular heavyweight Johnny Fisher, who treats his Romford-Bull army to an away-day.
