Conor Benn in heated exchange with multi-weight world champion
Brit boxer Conor Benn posted a screenshot of his Instagram DMs with American Adrien Broner following his unanimous decision win over Peter Dobson last Saturday in Las Vegas.
The messages appeared on Benn’s Instagram story amid his back-and-fourth with another rival, Gervonta Davis, on X when, after Tank mocked his performance, the 27-year-old compared him to a “munchkin from oz”.
While the pair have loosely agreed to fight – with social media posts indicating interest from both parties – 34-year-old Broner has now also thrown his name into the mix.
In his Instagram DM’s to Benn, the 34-year-old said: “I will fight you next bro your easy work bro.”
Benn replied saying: “I aint your bro. We tried making the fight but you didn’t put down the bottle. Don’t @ me unless your serious because we can make it whenever you want.”
Broner then said: “Ok I will gladly f**k you up b*tch ass n**** and after I’m done I’m go pop open a brand new bottle in the middle of the ring f**k ya!!!!”
To which, Benn replied saying: “Good man.”
The Cincinnati “Can Man” returned to the ring last year – after two years of inactivity – beating a relatively unknown fighter, Bill Hutchinson, in a welterweight bout in Miami, where the former four-weight world champion laboured to an uninspiring points win.
He has had two low-profile contests since his defeat to Manny Pacquiao back in 2019, when Broner, rather surprisingly, showed that he was not a million miles away from world level.
Yet, five years on from that performance, the chances of seeing Broner in a world title fight are increasingly slimmer, especially with clips of him appearing grossly out of shape doing the rounds on social media.
However, with Benn entertaining the possibility of a showdown at 147 lbs – a more natural weight for him – it is not unthinkable for his promoter Eddie Hearn to reach out to Broner’s team if he cannot deliver a world title opportunity against Davis.
