Conor Benn decisions Peter Dobson widely in Vegas
Undefeated welterweight Conor Benn (23-0, 14KO) continued his winning streak on Saturday night, February 3rd in Las Vegas with a unanimous decision win over American Peter Dobson (16-1, 9KO)
The 27-year-old from Essex won the 12-round contest with wide scores of 119-109 and 118-110 twice.
The 33-year-old Bronx boxer Peter Dobson hadn’t fought in a professional boxing ring for 20 months due to a sideline venture in the Team Combat League during 2023.
Benn was bouncy and sharp, catching Dobson early with a long left hand in the second round to send the American backpedalling.
The Brit used his jab well, targeting both body and head, while the American tried big left and right hooks from behind his Philly Shell.
Benn was very patient, content to take his time and get a few rounds under his belt.
Benn told DAZN he was in “cruise control” all the way to his first ever 12-round points win, “I was in cruise control, you know, it was alright, but I’ve had harder spars though.
“I always gun for the first round, if I see an opening I take it. I don’t miss when I shoot, I took my shots, he was still standing, he was tough, he was in there to survive really, I’m a bit disappointed. If he’d opened up instead of surviving then he would have been in for it.”
He reviewed his performance, “You can always do better, I’ll go back and I’ll assess it, no doubt I’ll be disappointed with things that I’d done, you know silly right hands I caught with, but overall this is just more for me getting back where I was mentally and it’s good being out here, but the dream is to fight back home, that’s the plan.”
