Conor Benn took to Instagram to share a positive message after his unfortunate appeal results
Conor Benn was provisionally suspended by the British Boxing Board of Control (BBofC) and the United Kingdom Doping Agency (UKAD) in late 2022 after testing positive for clomifene, a banned substance.
The ban resulted in his British super-fight with Chris Eubank Jr. falling to pieces on fight week.
Unfortunately for Benn, it looks like he may have to wait longer before stepping back into the ring on British soil, as the BBBofC has won their appeal to apply an official suspension to the young prospect in the coming weeks.
Benn has been able to fight overseas and has reclaimed his spot in the WBC rankings. However, it seems he will have to continue to hold out in the hope of eventually having his British license reinstated.
Following the announcement, Benn took to Instagram, appearing positive despite the less-than-ideal outcome.
“Work ethic unmatched. Block out the noise and stay focused!” The 27-year-old posted on his Instagram story.
Benn’s last outing came in February, winning a unanimous decision of Peter Dobson in Las Vegas.
While not quite the glittering performance many had hoped to see from the Briton, he cruised to victory, comfortably winning almost every round out of a scheduled 10.
“I was in cruise control,” Benn revealed in a post-fight interview.
“He was alright but I’ve had harder spars. I took my shots and he was still standing. He was tough, but he was in there to survive.”
It remains to be seen what ‘The Destroyer’s’ next steps will be following the result of the appeal. He is still cleared to fight internationally, and a matchup with Manny Pacquaio appears likely, following Eddie Hearn’s statement in an Interview with iFL TV.
“Listen, we all want that fight, and obviously Manny flew in for talks and to watch the show in Saudi Arabia, so that’s what we’d like to do.”
“We’re waiting for the Conor Benn announcement from the appeal. We were told it was going to be in two weeks, and it’s now nearly four weeks, so we’ll be hearing about that appeal any day.
“It’s not in our hands, it’s in the hands of the Board and their decision will determine where Conor Benn’s next fight will be because, quite frankly, we could do Conor Benn versus Pacquiao in a stadium in London.”
While it’s unlikely the fight will be held in London, there is almost definitely opportunities for the showdown to be staged overseas.
