The Benn-Eubank feud rages on
Controversial British welterweight contender, Conor Benn, has once again dominated the headlines this week after UKAD and the BBBofC won their appeal against the lifting of his suspension, seemingly forcing ‘The Destroyer’ to continue to fight outside of the UK.
Now, one of his domestic rivals has poured salt on the wounds, claiming that he is ‘scamming the boxing public’.
Benn tested positive for Clomifene ahead of his fight with Chris Eubank Jnr 18 months ago, leading to an extended absence from the ring.
However, Benn returned with two fights in the United States during the last six months, defeating both Rodolfo Orozco and Peter Dobson by unanimous-decision, and then proceeding to call out the worldwide superstars such as Devin Haney and Gervonta Davis.
In an interview with Boxing Social, cousin of Chris Eubank Jr and a potential future opponent of Conor’s, Harlem Eubank declared his belief than Benn is ‘scamming the boxing public’.
“It’s [been] two years of nonsense really, hasn’t it? It’s just been clickbait stuff for the last two years. Just follow the procedure, it’s life, you have to follow the governing bodies, they set the rules. Follow the British Boxing Board of Control’s protocol, get your licence back and then get in these big domestic fights that the boxing public want to see.
“It’s not frustrating for me [that he calls out big names and then fights lesser known opponents], I’m sure it is frustrating for the boxing public because you are scamming them. Again, it is like influencer stuff, it is not real boxing and you are not going to get respect by calling for these names when none of these names materialise. That’s what it comes down to.”
Harlem Eubank has been vocal in his callouts of Benn in the past, but he would need to move up from super-lightweight for the bout, that would likely not take place until Benn was permitted to fight on British shores once again.
