Claressa Shields fires fresh shots at Savannah Marshall as fierce feud furthers
Claressa Shields has once again resumed her war of words with long-running rival Savannah Marshall and reignited their infamous feud.
Shields, a three-weight undisputed boxing world champion, is set to return to MMA after a hiatus of over two years as she faces Kelsey DeSantis this Saturday in Saudi Arabia. While her immediate focus is on clinching a world championship in the promotion, talks of a rematch with Marshall loom large.
Having handed Marshall her sole defeat in October 2022, Shields, a two-time Olympic gold medallist, remains confident in her abilities, cautioning Briton Marshall that she won’t stand a chance against her in any discipline.
As such she has once again decided to assert her superiority ahead of a potential rematch, but this time in the octagon as part of the PFL, while speaking to Mirror Fighting.
“I don’t know what Savannah Marshall needs, but I know that she can’t beat me in nothing, that’s what I know.”
The 28-year-old, who fought just once last year when she defended her undisputed middleweight titles against Maricela Cornejo, then stated her current aims.
“My biggest aspiration for MMA is to be a PFL world champion. That’s all I really want from MMA, I want to do it at the same time as I’m boxing. Within the next two or three years, I would like to be fighting for the world championship against whoever the PFL world champion is at that time.”
Marshall is also signed to the PFL but as of yet hasn’t made her debut. That is expected to come son but in the meantime it is thought she will be attendance for Shields’ fight against DeSantis.
