Christian Mbilli vs Mark Heffron goes down tonight in Canada
Christian Mbilli (26-0, 22 KO) faces Britain’s Mark Heffron (30-3-1, 24KO) tonight, May 25, at the Centre Gervais Auto, Shawnigan in a seventh defence of his WBC Continental Americas title.
The two headliners registered respective weights of 166.8 lbs for Mbilli and 167.3 lbs for Heffron.
Also on the card is the return of “Lion” Arslanbek Makhmudov (18-1, 17KO), who will face Serbian giant and national champion Miljan Rovcanin (27-3, 18KO). They swung the scales at 263.8 lbs for Makhmudov and 236.2 lbs for Rovcanin.
32-year-old Heffron challenged for the British title three times before finally becoming champion. He initially stepped up too soon against world title contender Liam Williams in 2018, then he fancied his chances after an exciting back and forth draw with Denzel Bentley during lockdown.
Their rematch deemed deserving of the vacant British middleweight belt, but a badly swollen eye forced him to retire after round four.Dogged and determined, ‘Kid Dynamite’ challenged champion Lennox Clarke for his British and Commonwealth super-middleweight titles and finally prevailed in his quest.
His heart and power cannot be questioned, currently boasting an 80% KO ratio, and entering the lions den 2,700 miles from home in an attempt to upset the odds abroad.
He will have his work cut out for him against such a ‘Solid’ opponent in Mbilli, 29 from France.
Mbilli is ranked WBC #2, WBA #2, IBF #3, WBO #3, IBO #3, and consistently calling for a shot at the undisputed champion, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.
The event will be simulcast on Punching Grace, ESPN+ and RMC from 7pm (Quebec time).
