Christian Mbilli promoted to full WBC WBC world champion
During the World Boxing Council’s traditional weekly press conference, “Martes de Café,” on January 27, it was officially announced that French-Cameroonian Christian Mbilli (29-1, 24 KOs) has been elevated from WBC Interim titleholder to full WBC world champion at super-middleweight.
Joined by his Canadian promoter, Camille Estephan, 30-year-old Mbilli was presented with the iconic Green and Gold belt by WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán, officially confirming him as the king of the super-middleweight division.
Sulaiman said, “You are a champion we are incredibly proud of. Christian has been part of our organization for a long time; he was the WBC Continental Americas champion, making 9 successful defences before becoming the Interim champion. You and Lester Martinez put on a spectacular fight—the best of 2025. On this occasion, we are honoured to present you with the Fight of the Year trophy and your belt as the undisputed World Champion at 168 pounds,” stated Mauricio Sulaimán.
Mbilli gratefully received his new title, “I want to thank the WBC. I am very happy to be here in Mexico City fulfilling a childhood dream: holding the undisputed Green and Gold championship. I also want to thank my promoter, Camille Estephan, for all the support he has given me.”
This move marks a definitive milestone in Mbilli’s career, cementing his status as the new dominant force in one of boxing’s most competitive weight classes.
A Rio 2016 Olympian, Mbilli’s ascent to the absolute throne is the culmination of a breakout year. In 2025, he headlined what many experts hailed as the “Fight of the Year” in an epic showdown against Guatemala’s Lester Martinez. In that brutal battle, Mbilli displayed unwavering heart and extraordinary resilience, weathering critical moments to earn a hard-fought draw that commanded the respect of fans worldwide.
Boasting an undefeated record and devastating knockout power, Christian Mbilli’s trajectory has been both methodical and explosive. Renowned for his suffocating pressure, relentless work rate, and elite conditioning, he has truly earned his nickname, “Solid Rock.”
BBN would like to congratulate Christian on his new world title and champion status.
