Chev Clarke reveals Isaac Chamberlain was never his target
Chev Clarke had been ordered to fight Isaac Chamberlain and purse bids were set to take place this week but Chamberlian’s team pulled him out at the last minute and now Clarke has gone in-depth on the situation.
Chamberlain won the British title when he beat fellow Briton Mikael Lawal with a wide points majority back in October last year and has since said he is moving on to try exercise his right to a new belt as the European mandatory challenger. This rather left Clarke high and dry at the last minute with no opponent.
Speaking to Boxing Social, Chev updated on things from his side but remained calm and focused on his target.
“I found out when you guys found out. What can I do? I don’t care who I fight. Isaac is not the target. Winning the British is the target and to be fair I wouldn’t want to fight me either.
“Listen, you can’t stop what’s coming to me. It is what it is. I don’t get caught up in the emotional side, I just stay professional, stayed prepared, it’s just whoever wants it next innit. You’d think a champion might want to defend his belt but he waited a long time for it. Listen, I can’t comment on that.”
He was then asked if he believed Chamberlain ducked him.
“I don’t know. I suppose you would say so. He’s the champion and he’s lost it to go and pursue something else.”
Either way, Chev Clarke is now waiting to find out who he will face now for the British title.
