Carl Froch believes one boxer will be “too much” in Devin Haney vs Ryan Garcia clash
Hall of Famer Carl Froch anticipates a compelling fight between Devin Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) and Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) this Saturday, April 20, but remains concerned about Garcia’s mental wellbeing.
The pair will clash for Haney’s WBC world super lightweight title at the Barclays Center, New York, live on DAZN.
Throughout the build-up, Garcia’s activity on social media has led to some people predicting that the fight was not going to happen at all, with the 25-year-old behaving and commenting erratically in certain videos that he posted online.
Considering Garcia’s mentality, and his seventh-round stoppage defeat to Gervonta Davis last year, Froch envisions a victory for the defending champion Haney.
On Froch On Fighting, he said: “Yes, good fight. I think Devin Haney is going to be too much for [Garcia].
“[Garcia’s] been acting really strange and going on social media – I don’t know if he’s trying to drum up interest.
“He’s saying some mad things. He was on to Andrew Tate and a few other people saying: ‘they made me watch stuff’ – stuff that apparently went on in the woods.
“His head went; I think he’s gone too over the top on social media and I hope he’s mentally okay, and ready for this fight. He seems to be.
“With that loss [against Davis], I accused him of quitting, a few people did. If he loses this one, I don’t think he’ll take it very well, and it could be the last we see of him.”
Garcia comes off an eighth-round stoppage over Oscar Duarte, in a fight where he was able to demonstrate new skills that he has been learning under the tutelage of esteemed trainer Derrick James.Haney, meanwhile, comes off a dominant unanimous decision win over Regis Prograis in his first fight at 140 lbs.
Now, the two rivals – who are even after their six amateur bouts – are looking to settle the score.
And the fight couldn’t be any bigger, especially since the champion got physical by pushing the challenger at their face-off this week, with father Bill Haney controversially claiming he’s sending his son out to kill Garcia.
