Carl Froch can’t believe Derek Chisora is still fighting on
40-year-old, 47-fight veteran Derek Chisora is set to continue his storied career against Joe Joyce on July 27th in London, but Carl Froch urges the heavyweight veteran from Finchley to retire issuing a dire warning for his health.
Speaking exclusively to Lord Ping, former world champion boxer Carl Froch said: “I’m not interested in watching Derek Chisora fighting ever again. I can’t believe he’s still fighting to be honest. It’s at a stage now where it’s dangerous for him. Boxing’s already dangerous, but now, at this stage in his career, it’s really dangerous.”
World title contender, Chisora, has lost 13 fights and been stopped four times. But that’s only part of the concerning story, as the man known as ‘WAR’ is known for being able to take plenty of punishment.
His all-action, brawling style means that he gets involved in too many wars, hence the nicknamed bestowed upon him, but that abuse could prove damaging after so long in the pain business and at his advanced age.
“He needs to take advice from people close to him and that advice should be ‘no more punches to the head’,” Froch continued.
“You can be fit and strong and have a healthy diet and deal with the traumas of fighting in your twenties and early thirties, but if you keep going and keep going for too long, you’re taking too many punches to the head and it can leave you with devastating ramifications. Brain damage and death happen in a boxing ring.”
